Srinagar, Mar 05 (KNO): Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Union Territory, Kavinder Gupta, on Thursday stepped down from the gubernatorial post, just nine months after assuming office. Sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Gupta, who was sworn in as LG of Ladakh on July 18, 2025, resigned from the position. He was the third person to hold the post since the Union Territory was carved out. Gupta’s tenure was marked by brief protests over demands for statehood and constitutional safeguards. The situation took an ugly in September 2025, when demonstrations in Leh turned violent. Police action during the clashes left four civilians dead and several others injured, prompting curfew and security restrictions in parts of the region. Sources didn’t rule out the possibility of elevation of Kavinder Gupta, who was deputy Chief Minister of J&K during the PDP-BJP rule, as Governor of a state—(KNO)
